Wind Speed Measurements:
Indispensable for Wind Farm Planning

A reliable prediction of the annual energy yield of wind farms is only possible if it is based on accurate on-site wind speed measurements. Wind energy applications require a higher standard of wind speed measurements than it is necessary for meteorological purposes. Particularly critical aspects are the selection of the measuring site, the selection and calibration of anemometers, and the installation of the sensors on met masts. The costs involved in high-quality wind speed measurements are low in comparison to the reduction of the financial risk of wind farm projects. Therefore, responsible wind farm planning should be based on wind speed measurements carried out by independent and recognised experts.

Qualifications of our partner DEWI:

  • 200 on-site wind speed measurements in Germany, Poland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Jordan, Morocco and China.
  • Measurements are carried out according to IEA: Expert Group Study on Recommended Practices for Wind Turbine Testing and Evaluation, 11. Wind Speed Measurement and Use of Cup Anemometry, 1999
  • Anemometers are calibrated according to MEASNET und DKD
  • DEWI is accredited for tests in the field of wind speed measurements by "Deutsches Akkreditierungssystem Prüfwesen GmbH"
